Tralee to benefit from water mains upgrade

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Uisce Éireann is replacing aged water mains in Ard Charraig, Caherslee, Tralee, Co. Kerry.
As part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, works to replace approximately 225 metres of water mains will commence in early September in the Ard Charraig housing estate, Tralee.
The residents in Ard Charraig can look forward to a more reliable water supply with the instances of bursts and water outages for customers in the area reduced. This project will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to customers’ water supply.

Commenting on the project, Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, Joe Carroll said: “This is another significant investment in improving the water supply for the people of Kerry. This section of watermain that we are replacing will provide the local people with a more reliable water supply while reducing the amount of water lost to leakage.”

“The works will be carried out by experienced water service crews. The Direct Labour Water Service Team in Kerry is a leading example of bringing together the local knowledge and experienced skillset of all water services staff in Uisce Éireann and Kerry County Council to deliver water services for communities across Kerry.”

“We would like to thank customers in advance for their cooperation and patience while works on this project are underway.’’

Works are scheduled to commence at the start of September and are expected to be completed by the end of November. To deliver the works safely and efficiently, traffic management will be in place at this time in the form of a stop and go system. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained. To minimise disruption, works will be limited to short sections. The works may require some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.

Fixing leaks can be complicated. We have over 63,000 km of water pipes underground in Ireland – enough to circle the earth one and a half times. Most leaks aren’t visible, resulting in precious water being lost but we are making progress.

Uisce Éireann is committed to keeping customers informed across multiple platforms 24/7 and we encourage customers to engage with us through our website, X channels @IWCare and @IrishWater, on Facebook and LinkedIn and through our customer care helpline which is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278. Uisce Éireann has launched a free text service, providing real-time updates for local issues. Customers can sign up with their Eircode and mobile number on our water updates page.
