Potential water outage in Cork City on Wednesday night to facilitate major watermains replacement works on South Quays

We wish to advise customers in Cork City of a potential water outage from 11pm on Wednesday, 12 June to 4am on Thursday, 13 June to facilitate ongoing essential watermains replacement works as part of the Cork City South Quays project.

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Cork City Council is replacing old cast iron watermains with modern pipes on the South Quays to as we continue to address leakage and discolouration reports, and support development and economic growth.

Homes and businesses in Blackrock Road, Old Blackrock Road, Boreenmanna Road, Quaker Road, Windmill Road, Ballinlough, Curragh Road, Turners Cross, Douglas Street, Capwell Road, Summerhill South, Southern Road, Infirmary Road, Langford Row, High Street, Victoria Road and Victoria Avenue and surrounding areas may experience low water pressure, temporary water discolouration or intermittent disruptions to water supply. Up to 7,000 customers may be potentially be impacted.

Jack Cronin, Programme Manager Uisce Éireann, said: “Every effort will be made to limit the impact of these essential works and we would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation."

Following any significant works on the water network, we usually see increased reports of sediment becoming dislodged from the old cast iron pipes, resulting in discoloured water at customers’ taps in the short-term. If your tap water is discoloured, running the tap for up to 20 minutes will usually restore water to a clear colour. Water is safe to drink once the water is running clear. Uisce Éireann continues to advise customers not to drink discoloured water.
