Norelands, Stoneyford Water Mains Replacement

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Kilkenny County Council, has replaced problematic water mains in Norelands, Stoneyford, Co. Kilkenny to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.

The works involved the replacement of approximately 3km of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Norelands, Stoneyford, Co. Kilkenny commenced in late-November. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The section of works took place along a 3km stretch of the Norelands Road (L4202), between the R713 and the R700 Bennettsbridge to Thomastown Road.

The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these were replaced as part of this improvement work.

The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Shareridge Utilities Ltd. and were completed by late-February 2023.

What are the benefits of the works?

The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:

• A Reliable Water Supply - Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.

• Reduced Leaks - Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

• Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Traffic Management and Road Closures

In order to complete the works in a safe and efficient manner, a road closure is required along the Norelands Road (L4202) from Thursday 1st December 2022 to Thursday 22nd December 2022. Following a break in works over Christmas the same road closure will be reinstated from Monday 9th January to late-February.

The suggested diversion route for eastbound traffic is via (L4206) Stoneyford to Thomastown Road southbound to the R488, continuing eastbound to Thomastown before taking the R700 northbound, via Lady's Well St., towards Bennettsbridge.

Will customers be affected by the works?

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
