County Wicklow
Leakage Reduction Programme
Much of Ireland's water is lost to leaks before it reaches our taps.
Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme is Fixing leaks around the country to provide a more reliable water supply. This programme of works in County Leitrim is one example of how we are working with our partners to reduce leaks every day.
Securing water supply in County Wicklow
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Wicklow County Council, has delivered over 17 kilometers of new water mains and improved the water supply for more than 70,000 people in County Wicklow since 2018, as part of the Leakage Reduction Programme.
Across several Leakage Reduction Programme work streams, the works involved the replacement of old, problematic pipes; new service connections and fixing leaks on customer property through the First Fix Free scheme. Collaborating with the Local Authority and its Regional Contractors, these works have significantly improved the water supply in the area:
“The replacement of ageing water mains and the provision of new public side and shared connections across County Wicklow, as part of the Leakage Reduction Programme, mean local residents and businesses alike benefit from an improved security of supply.”
Joe Carroll - Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead
“Delivering the First Fix Free scheme in County Wicklow required coordination across the business and strong collaboration with our partners, the Local Authorities and Regional Contractors. Working together we have had a positive impact on leakage and the daily lives of our customers in the County.”
Paul Harney - Network Programme Manager, Asset Delivery
