Kanturk Water Mains Replacement
National Leakage Reduction Programme
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Cork County Council, has replaced problematic water mains in Paal, Kanturk Co. Cork to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.
The works involved the replacement of approximately 4.7km of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Paal, Kanturk, Co. Cork commenced in early-January. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works took place along Mill Road/Paal (L1025) from its junction with the Dromalore Road (L1024), continuing approximately 4.7km southbound in the direction of the N72.
The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke Construction Ltd. and were completed by late-April.
What are the benefits of the works?
The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:
• A Reliable Water Supply - Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.

• Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
Traffic Management and Road Closures
In order to complete the works in a safe and efficient manner the Mill Road/Paal (L1025) will remain closed from its junction with Percival St. to the Dromalore Road (L1024) from early-January to early-February.
The suggested diversion route for southbound traffic taking the Mill Road, is continue Eastbound via Percival Street through Kanturk Town before taking the R579 southbound to the L1024 for Drumalore Industrial Estate. From there, continue to Paal East Road (L1025).
A second road closure will take place from late-January to late-April along the L1023 Coolclogh/Garraveasogre Road from the L1024 to its junction with N72.
Southbound traffic from the Mill Road should continue along L1024, via Drumalore Industrial Estate, before taking the R579 to Ballymaquirk Cross. From there, head westbound along N72 before taking the L1128 northbound at Angland's Filling station.
Will customers be affected by the works?
Please be advised that local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
