Works underway to restore water supply for customers in Newcastle West following power outage

Uisce Éireann is working to restore water supply to customers supplied by water treatment infrastructure in Limerick who have been impacted by a power related outage.

The power disruption over the last 24 hours has resulted in lower-than-normal water pressure and intermittent water outages in Newcastle West and the surrounding areas.

Crews have been mobilised to make the necessary repairs. Uisce Éireann is also liaising closely with the ESB to prioritise the restoration of power to the water treatment infrastructure.

Duane O'Brien, Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann said; A fault has resulted in a power outage, impacting production at local water treatment infrastructure. Expert crews are working tirelessly to restore operations. We regret any inconvenience caused by this issue and sincerely thank the community impacted for their patience."

“As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes. Following return of supply, it typically takes two to three hours for normal supply to fully be restored to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network”.

It may be necessary to implement water conservation measures overnight to maintain daytime supplies. In particular, high-ground areas will experience a reduction in pressure and flow during the restrictions. Uisce Éireann is working to restore the water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers.
