Work on-going to restore water supply to customers supplied by Clonakilty Water Treatment Plant following Storm Bert

Restrictions in place nightly from 11pm to 6am until 30 November

Water supply is returning for customers in Clonakilty and surrounding areas following the impact of Storm Bert. However, due to low reservoir levels, there will be essential restrictions required to conserve water and maintain daytime supplies. In particular, high-ground areas will experience a reduction in pressure and flow during the restrictions.

Restrictions are scheduled to take place nightly from 11pm until 6am until 30 November.

Water production capacity at Clonakilty Water Treatment Plant was impacted over the weekend due to mechanical issues at the plant caused by Storm Bert. As the network fills throughout the week, expert crews will continue to respond to operational and network issues following adverse weather conditions.

Homes and businesses are being asked to be mindful of their water usage and conserve water to allow supply to catch up with demand. Customers can find useful water saving tips on our conservation section. This also includes an easy-to-use conservation calculator so you can work out how much water you are currently saving and how to conserve even more.

We are also appealing to customers to check for leaks in the home and carry out necessary leak repairs and asking farmers to check their service pipes, drinking troughs and outbuildings. Customers are urged to report loss of service or visible leaks to assist Uisce Éireann to identify bursts.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann is working to address supply interruptions that may be experienced by some customers supplied by the Clonakilty Water Treatment Plant in Cork as a result of the impacts of Storm Bert. Our priority is the provision of clean safe drinking water to communities and the safety of water services staff who work to make that happen.

Due to mechanical problems at the plant following Storm Bert, the production capacity at the Water Treatment Plant has been impacted. Customers in the following impacted areas may experience reduced pressure or loss of supply; Clonakilty, Aghamilla, Ballyduvane, Cahermore, Clogheen, Currahevern, Darraram, Kilkeran North, Kilkeran South, Lisavaird, Rathbarry, Shannonvale, Tawnies, and surrounding areas.

Niall O’Riordan, Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann said, “Some customers supplied by Clonakilty Water Treatment Plant may be impacted by reduced water pressure and water outages. We understand how disruptive unplanned outages are and we regret the inconvenience caused. Crews have been on site throughout yesterday and into late last night and continue to carry out works. We expect water supply should be restored by 10am Monday 25th November”.

As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes. Following return of supply, it typically takes two to three hours for normal supply to fully be restored to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.
