Uisce Éireann is continuing to work to restore water supplies to parts of Co. Donegal impacted by Storm Darragh.
Power outages have led to loss of water for approximately 2000 properties between Newtowncunningham and Manorcunningham that are supplied by Milltown pumps and the Pollan Dam Water Supply Scheme.
Power supply has now been restored and the Milltown Pumps have started to refill Dooish reservoir. It is expected that water will gradually be restored to all areas over the course of today, Sunday 8 December.
Water has been restored to Letterkenny, Glenswilly, Churchill and surrounding areas. However, some properties in these locations may experience a delay in full restoration due to airlocks in the network.
In south Donegal, the Frosses/Inver/Mountcharles Water Treatment Plant is back in production after power was restored earlier today, Sunday 8 December. However, it will take time for the network to fill and for water supplies to be fully restored.
Separately Uisce Eireann crews have mobilised to fix two burst watermains in the county. Approximately 200 properties are affected by a burst at Drumaweir Greencastle. The impacted customers are supplied by the Carndonagh Mixed Water Supply Scheme. It is expected that these works will be complete by 5pm this evening, Sunday 8 December.
Uisce Éireann is also working to repair a burst watermain at Malin Head which is affecting supply for 20 customers. A restoration time for this outage is 11am on Monday, 9 December.
Typically, it takes two to three hours for a normal supply to be restored to all customers affected by an unplanned outage, but the time of restoration will likely be longer given the duration of the current outages.
Uisce Éireann’s Paul Kilcoyne said, “Every effort is being undertaken to restore water to the people of Co. Donegal being affected by water loss due to the impact of storm Darragh. We would like to thank our customers for their patience while our teams carry out these repairs as quickly as possible.”
