Water supply is returning for customers in Mogeely, Castlemartyr and Ladysbridge and surrounding areas following the impact of Storm Bert. While production has now recommenced at the Mogeely Water Treatment Plant, the reservoirs levels are at risk of dropping. Therefore, essential restrictions will be required to conserve water and maintain daytime supplies. In particular, high-ground areas will experience a reduction in pressure and flow during the restrictions.
Restrictions are scheduled to take place nightly from 11pm until 6am until 30 November to allow reservoirs to replenish.
Homes and businesses are being asked to be mindful of their water usage and conserve water to allow supply to catch up with demand.
Customers can find useful water saving tips on our website here.. This also includes an easy-to-use conservation calculator so you can work out how much water you are currently saving and how to conserve even more. We are also appealing to customers to check for leaks in the home and carry out necessary leak repairs and asking farmers to check their service pipes, drinking troughs and outbuildings. Customers are urged to report loss of service or visible leaks to assist Uisce Éireann to identify bursts.
Uisce Éireann would also like to remind customers of that, as part of, the National Leakage Reduction Programme, valve installation works are due to be carried out from 11pm on 26 November until 3am on 27 November. This may cause supply disruptions to Ladysbridge, Springfield Road, Mogeely, Castlemartyr and surrounding areas in Co. Cork. A traffic management plan will be in place for the duration of the works.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. Uisce Éireann is working to address supply interruptions to customers as a result of the impacts of Storm Bert on water treatment infrastructure in Cork. Our priority is the provision of clean safe drinking water to communities and the safety of water services staff who work to make that happen.
The Mogeely Water Treatment Plant, which supplies drinking water to the communities of Mogeely, Castlemartyr and Ladysbridge, has been impacted due to poor raw water quality from storm flooding. The turbidity of the incoming water for treatment remains high. For this reason, the treatment plant has shutdown. Reservoirs in the area are now depleted meaning customers in these areas are being impacted by an unplanned interruption to the water supply. Uisce Éireann is working to restore the water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers.
Niall O Riordan, Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann said, “Customers in Mogeely, Castlemartyr, Ladysbridge and wider areas will be impacted by reduced water pressure and water outages. We understand how disruptive unplanned outages are and we regret the inconvenience caused. Alternative Water Supplies in the form of bulk containers are being deployed. Further details of locations will be communicated in due course. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure”.
As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes. Following return of supply, it typically takes two to three hours for normal supply to fully be restored to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.
