Water returning to Uisce Éireann customers on Mid-Galway Public Supply
Majority of customers on the Supply will see their supply return to normal levels overnight
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.
The majority of Uisce Éireann customers on the Mid-Galway Public Water Supply will see their supply return to normal levels overnight and into Wednesday morning.
Water supply to the Farmhill and Gleenaveel reservoirs is recharging and supply levels will return to normal overnight and into Wednesday morning for the majority of the 8,000 affected customers served by the Mid-Galway Supply.
Water supply has returned to Abbeyknockmoy this afternoon (Tuesday) and supply will gradually return to Monivea, Newcastle, Tamplecross, Carrabane, Cahertinny, Caherhenryhoe, Attymon and Kiltullagh overnight and into Wednesday morning.
Some small pockets on the supply may continue to experience disruption. This will be the case in areas on the supply which are served by booster stations, some of which have yet to recover power. Customers in Oakwood, Cashlaundarragh, Corrafairreen and Gorteen may continue to be affected by supply disruptions.
Uisce Éireann wishes to thank affected customers for their understanding while crews worked to restore water supply in the wake of Storm Éowyn. Uisce Eireann also wishes to acknowledge the tireless efforts of crews on the ground, working alongside partners in the ESB and the local authority, to restore supply.
As of Tuesday lunchtime, approximately 31,000 people remained without water nationally, down from a peak figure of 200,000 in the immediate aftermath of the storm.
As water supply returns to affected customers, there may be instances of discolouration as the network refills. Customers are advised to run their taps until the water runs clear.

Previous Updates
Uisce Éireann is continuing to work to restore normal water supply to customers supplied by the Mid Galway Water Supply Scheme following disruption caused by the impact of Storm Éowyn.
The high winds and immense power of Storm Éowyn resulted in a number of power outages across the county. A number of water treatment plants and pumping stations are still without power. We are continuing to co-ordinate with the National Emergency Co-ordination Group, Local Authorities, ESB Networks, Civil Defence and other agencies as work continues to restore power and normal water supplies as quickly as possible.
Justin Doran, Uisce Éireann said: "Uisce Éireann crews and ESB Networks are continuing to work throughout the night to restore power to the Mid Galway Water Treatment Plant so that production of treated water can recommence at the plant as quickly and as safely as possible. Once power is returned it may take some time for normal water supply to be restored”.
Areas impacted include all customers on the Mid-Galway Water Supply Scheme, including Abbeyknockmoy, Monivea, Newcastle, Tamplecross, Gurteen, Carrabane, Cahertinny, Caherhenryhoe, Colesmanstown, Attymon and Kiltullagh and surrounding areas.
To support customers alternative water supplies are in place in
- Monivea (near Post Office),
- Abbeyknockmoy Community Centre,
- Carrabane.
Customers can go to www.water.ie and enter their address for details of localised issues and estimated restoration times.
In the meantime, customers are urged to conserve water where possible in order to protect supply while the outages are resolved.
