Water restrictions lifted in Dunmore

Uisce Éireann wishes to advise customers in Dunmore, Co Galway and the surrounding areas that the water restrictions which have been imposed in recent days will extend into the weekend. This is necessary to allow water levels in the Dunmore (Gortgarrow Springs) Reservoir to return to normal levels.

Due to mechanical issues in the water treatment plant, water levels in the reservoir remain below normal levels.

Some areas of the supply may experience intermittent disruption to their water supply, low pressure, or temporary water outages over the coming days.

This may impact customers in Dunmore, Garrafrauns and Clonberne, including the Boyounagh Ballyedmund Group Water Scheme and the Knocmascahill Group Water Scheme.

Uisce Éireann operatives are monitoring the water levels in the reservoir on an hourly basis and are working to restore water levels to normal as quickly as possible.

Justin Doran of Uisce Éireann acknowledged the patience of customers as the issues are resolved. “The restrictions are ongoing as a result of low water levels in the Dunmore Reservoir caused by mechanical issues at the water treatment plant. We understand the inconvenience that the restrictions may cause and we thank customers for their patience while we allow reservoir levels to return to normal.”

Uisce Éireann wishes to advise customers in Dunmore, Co Galway that further restrictions are necessary in order to conserve water supply.

Customers in Dunmore and the surrounding areas may experience further intermittent disruption to their water supply over the next 24 hours.

Due to mechanical failures at the Dunmore (Gortgarrow Springs) Water Treatment Plant, some areas of the supply may experience water outages over the next 24 hours.

This may impact on customers in in Dunmore, Garrafrauns and Clonberne, including the Boyounagh Ballyedmund Group Water Scheme and the Knocmascahill Group Water Scheme.

Restrictions will be in place from lunchtime today (Thursday, 15 August) until tomorrow morning (Friday, 16 August) in order to allow reservoir levels to fully recover.

Uisce Éireann are asking customers in the area to conserve water, where possible. Simple water conservation actions can have a significant impact on driving down demand on the supply. We are asking customers to conserve water by turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving, which can save up to six litres of water per minute.

Keeping a jug of water in the fridge instead of running the cold tap can save 10 litres of water per day. In the garden, we’re asking people to recycle water, such as water used in food preparation or washing up, for watering flowers and lawns. Uisce Éireann wishes to advise customers in Dunmore, Co Galway and the surrounding areas that overnight water restrictions are necessary in order to conserve supply.

The overnight restrictions are required to enable the recovery of levels in the Dunmore (Gortgarrow Springs) Reservoir and to ensure water supply to industries, schools, residences and commercial premises during business hours.

Customers may experience lower water pressure or localised water outages at higher points.
The restrictions will be in place from 7pm this evening (Wednesday, 14 August) until tomorrow morning and may impact customers in Dunmore, Garrafrauns and Clonberne, including Boyounagh Ballyedmund Group Water Scheme and the Knocmascahill Group Water Scheme.
