Uisce Éireann has restored operations at Rathdown Pump Station in Greystones Co Wicklow, following a malfunction which resulted in a failure of the pumping system.
While the plant was offline, Uisce Éireann implemented emergency procedures to manage wastewater treatment. Incoming wastewater to the pump station was diverted to a storm overflow which discharges at the southern external end of the Greystones Harbour Wall. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was immediately notified of this emergency procedure. Incoming effluent is now being treated at the pump station as per normal practice.
Wicklow County Council have lifted the bathing restriction at Greystones, in consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE).
