Uisce Éireann reminds customers of essential maintenance on water network for Kilkenny City and surrounding area

Uisce Éireann wishes to remind customers that it will carry out critical maintenance on the water network through the night of Friday 11 October into the morning of Saturday 12 October. 

Homes and businesses in Kilkenny city may experience low pressure or discoloured water between 11pm on Friday night and 11am on Saturday morning with supply returning to normal throughout the early morning on Saturday 12 October.

The following areas will also be impacted by low pressure, discoloured water or interruption to supply between 11pm on Friday night and 11am on Saturday morning: Freshford, Cooleshal, Threecastles, Tulla, Rathmoyle, Thornback, Talbotsinch, Freshford Rd, Granges Rd, St Lukes Hospital, Palmerstown, Lacken/Bonnettstown, Drakelands and Kilcreen Road.

These essential works are necessary for the continued delivery of safe, clean drinking water to homes and businesses in Kilkenny City and the surrounding area.

Speaking about the project, Dave Murphy, Programme Manager, Uisce Éireann, said: “These works are taking place over the weekend and at night to reduce the impact on the local community. We hope to minimise any inconvenience to our customers and it is expected that supply will return throughout the early morning on Saturday 12 October”.

As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes. Uisce Éireann advises customers to familiarise themselves with their storage capacity. 

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network. 

Uisce Éireann acknowledges the inconvenience caused by interruptions to water supply and thanks the community in Kilkenny for their patience and cooperation while we deliver these essential works.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Uisce Éireann will carry out critical maintenance works on the water network in Troyswood Water Treatment Plant through the night of Friday 11, October into the morning on Saturday, 12 October.

Uisce Éireann customers in parts of Kilkenny city, Freshford, Cooleshal, Threecastles, Tulla, Rathmoyle, Thornback, Talbotsinch, Freshford Rd, St Lukes Hospital, Granges Rd, Palmerstown, Lacken/Bonnettstown, Drakelands and Kilcreen Road may experience low pressure, discoloured water or interruption to supply between 11pm on Friday night and 11am on Saturday morning.
