Normal water supply returning to Galway City customers
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann crews have completed emergency works in Galway City and a normal water supply is returning to customers.
A major leak close to the docks caused supply disruptions to a number of customers but specialist crews worked overnight and today to resolve the issue.
As crews finished up on site, Uisce Éireann’s Shay Walsh thanked the customers who were affected along Dock Road, Eyre Square, Middle Street, Victoria Place, Station Road, Lough Atalia and Merchant’s Road for their patience.
“The system is now recharging and a normal water supply will be returning to homes and businesses in the coming hours.”
Typically, it takes two to three hours following works for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.

Previous Updates
Uisce Éireann crews are carrying out emergency works in Galway City this afternoon following the detection of a major leak.
In order to restore a normal water suppy to all homes and businesses affected by the leak, works are required which will result in a water disruption for a number of customers in the city centre this afternoon.
Customers on Dock Road, Eyre Square, Middle Street, Victoria Place, Station Road and Lough Atalia and Merchant’s Road will experience low pressure or a water disruption this afternoon to allow for the emergency works to take place.
Uisce Éireann’s Shay Walsh assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a normal water supply to all homes and businesses in the city centre as quickly as possible.
“Specialist crews were on site overnight and we’ve located the leak and begun works to restore water to all our customers. However, the works require a water supply disruption to some areas this afternoon.
“Yesterday afternoon crews diverted water flow to ensure supply to the majority of areas in the city centre.”
It’s expected that repair works will be completed by early this afternoon and supply will return to normal levels for all affected areas of the city over the course of the evening.
Shay thanked customers for their patience.
“We understand how inconvenient an unplanned outage is and I thank the homes and businesses who have shown us their support as our crews work to fix the issue.”
Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers as the system recharges.
