Shannonvale, Co. Cork

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Uisce Éireann is progressing a Strategic Assessment to identify the best long-term solution for Shannonvale. Uisce Éireann has statutory responsibility for all aspects of public water services planning, delivery and operation at national, regional and local levels. The scope, prioritisation and progression of individual projects is a matter for Uisce Éireann and is approved through Uisce Éireann internal governance structures.

A terrace of 9 houses in Shannonvale is served by a septic tank and percolation area, both of which pre-date Uisce Éireann. The treated effluent from the septic tank discharges to ground via a percolation area. The tank has been inspected and the performance of the tank is monitored frequently by Uisce Éireann’s operations team, and frequent periodic desludging is arranged, as required. There is however a problem with the performance of the percolation area which is unable to disperse effluent into the ground quickly enough under certain conditions.

As confirmed Uisce Éireann is progressing a Strategic Assessment to identify the best long-term solution for Shannonvale. The strategic assessment phase will continue during 2024, which involves a full assessment of all feasible options, having regard to available resources, funding and prioritisation.

Following completion of the Strategic Assessment the project will be brought forward to the Stage 2 Preliminary Business Case. This project is being assessed and progressed in accordance with Uisce Éireann project governance process and aligns with the Public Spending Code guidelines. We have confirmed to residents that with the Stage 1 Assessment underway, Shannonvale Park will be included for consideration in the development of the next Capital Investment Plan 2025-2029 having regard to approved funding and prioritisation. The next Capital Investment Plan is subject to CRU approval and there is no commitment to progressing projects that are not currently at construction stage. Once the Stage 2 assessment has been complete, further updates on the budget and timelines for delivery will be available.

Uisce Éireann is committed to ensuring communities are kept up to date and has a number of existing dedicated communication channels available to customers and elected representatives.
