Overnight restrictions in Ashbourne and Ratoath to allow reservoir levels recover

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Overnight water restrictions are necessary for Uisce Éireann customers in Ashbourne and Ratoath tonight to maintain a daytime supply for the community.

Following the repairs of two significant bursts in the water network, restrictions will be in place from 10pm tonight, Friday, 20 September, until 6am tomorrow morning, to allow local reservoir levels recharge.

Customers in Ratoath, Ashbourne and surrounding area may experience outages or reduced pressure during this time.

Uisce Éireann’s Michael Cunniffe said, “A new reservoir in Windmill Hill allowed us to deal with these bursts with minimal impact to the customers, and tonight’s restriction will allow us to restore the reservoir to a healthier level once again. We understand the inconvenience that these restrictions are causing, and we would like to reassure customers that we are doing all that we can to return to normal service as quickly as possible.

"The majority of customers should have adequate storage in their attic tanks to provide for essential uses such as flushing toilets for the duration of this restriction. However, customers can help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and postponing using dishwashers and washing machines where possible.

“Customers can find useful water saving tips on our website www.water.ie/conserve. This also includes an easy-to-use conservation calculator so you can work out how much water you are currently saving and how to conserve even more.”

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on X @IWCare with any queries. For updates on local water supply issues, please visit the Water Supply Updates section of our website.
