National Leakage Reduction Programme continues in Kerry
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Kerry County Council, is replacing nearly 2km of aged water mains along the Dingle Peninsula. The project, which commenced last week, is due to be completed in May.
The works will take place along the R559 from Ceann Trá to Baile Mór, where a stop-go traffic light system will be in place.
Commenting on the project, Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, Joe Carroll said: "This is another significant investment in improving the water supply for the people of Kerry. The Dingle Peninsula is a popular place for tourism, nestled along the Wild Atlantic Way. This section of watermain that we are replacing will provide the local people and businesses with a more reliable water supply while reducing the amount of water lost to leakage."
"This project is a significant one for Uisce Éireann in Kerry that will be undertaken by the experienced water service staff. The Direct Labour Water Service Team in Kerry is a prime example of our goal to bring the local knowledge and experienced skillset of all water services staff together to build a truly national organisation delivering improved and more efficient water services to our communities, supporting housing, economic development and job creation across the country."
"We would like to thank customers in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete this important project.''
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned disruption. The works also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customer's water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these are being replaced.
