Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

As summer fun continues, upgrade works begin on the Gowran Regional Water Supply Scheme.

The €12 million investment in critical upgrades to the drinking water supply in Gowran, Goresbridge, and Paulstown will enhance the security of water supply, ensuring the delivery of safe, clean drinking water to homes and businesses.

Benefiting over 1,200 people in the area, the project involves the construction of a new water treatment plant and upgrades to the Butlersgrove reservoir. The project will also provide additional capacity for new connections to the scheme which will also support growth and development in the surrounding areas for years to come.

David Walsh Civil Engineering Ltd will deliver the project, which is set to be completed in 2025, on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Commenting on importance of this project for the people of Kilkenny, Sean Twohig, Infrastructure Delivery Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said:

“This project is an important milestone and represents a significant investment by Uisce Éireann in futureproofing and safeguarding the water supply for the people of Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown. The new water treatment plant and associated infrastructure will ensure a safe, clean drinking water supply in the area for current and future generations.”

Sean added, “Projects such as these are essential to allow Uisce Éireann to continue to support social and economic growth through the delivery of essential water services. This project is just one of a number of critical projects being undertaken to safeguard the drinking water supply in Kilkenny.”
