Water supply restored to majority of affected areas in Galway City

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann crews have isolated the source of a significant burst which affected water supply to areas of Galway City centre this afternoon.

Detection crews have narrowed down their search to the Docks area of the city. Specialist crews working on behalf of Uisce Éireann will investigate further through the night with a view towards beginning excavations to repair the burst main at first light tomorrow morning (Friday).

Crews have diverted water flow to ensure supply to the majority of areas in the city centre which experienced some disruption to their supply earlier today. However, some isolated areas may continue to experience intermittent outages or reduced supply overnight.

It is expected that repair works will be completed by early afternoon on Friday and supply will return to normal levels for all affected areas of the city over the course of Friday afternoon.

Shay Walsh of Uisce Éireann thanked customers for their patience.

The source of the issue has been isolated and crews will be working through the night to prepare for excavations to begin early in the morning,” added Shay.

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers as the system recharges.
