Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Homes and businesses in Roscrea are set to benefit from Uisce Éireann’s €2 million upgrade to Glenbeha Water Treatment Plant. The upgrade will ensure the continued delivery of a clean, secure, and reliable supply of drinking water to the area.
The Roscrea Water Supply is included on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Remedial Action List (RAL), which identifies water supplies that need improvement. The upgrade works, now underway, will provide a more robust and advanced water treatment process and ensure full compliance with drinking water standards into the future.
Commenting on the upgrade, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager John Hickey said: ‘We’re delighted to have commenced this project to upgrade the water treatment plant at Glenbeha. The enhanced treatment facilities will improve the drinking water quality for residents and businesses across Roscrea and surrounding areas ensuring continued delivery of a safe and reliable supply. We look forward to keeping the community informed while we carry out these essential works.’
The upgrades will include a more advanced water treatment process and the provision of high specification disinfection, an electrical upgrade, and provision of upgraded SCADA control and monitoring systems.
Ward and Burke are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Completion of this upgrade project is planned for Autumn 2025.
This is the latest in a series of several major investments in Tipperary by Uisce Éireann in the past decade. Most recently the completion of an upgrade at the Cahir wastewater treatment plant; ongoing wastewater upgrades at Newport, and Fethard, totalling €20m investment; €7million upgrade to the Fethard Regional Water Supply Scheme; recent completion of a new water network at Horse and Jockey; as well as an upgrade to Clonmel Water Supply which is currently underway.
