Boil Water Notices lifted on Mid-Galway and Carna/Kilkieran Regional Public Water Supply Schemes
Boil Water Notices remain in place for Dunmore/Glenamaddy, Glenamaddy and Gort Public Water Supplies in Co Galway

The Boil Water Notices on the Carna/Kilkieran Regional Public Water Supply Scheme and the Mid-Galway Public Water Supply Scheme in Co Galway have both been lifted with immediate effect.
Uisce Éireann can confirm that, following consultation with the Health Service Executive, customers can now resume normal use of both public water supplies.
However, Boil Water Notices remain in effect to protect the health of customers served by the Dunmore/Glenamaddy and Glenamaddy Public Water Supplies and the Gort Public Water Supply. Customers on these supplies are advised to continue to boil water their water before use until further notice.
The Boil Water Notice on the Carna/Kilkieran Regional Public Water Supply Scheme was issued on Saturday, 23 November due to power outages which impacted the water treatment process. Approximately 2,294 customers were affected by this Boil Water Notice.
The Boil Water Notice on the Mid-Galway Public Water Supply Scheme was issued on Sunday, 24 November due to a deterioration in raw water quality entering the treatment plant as a result of heavy rainfall. Approximately 7,852 customers were affected by this Boil Water Notice.
Drinking water experts from Uisce Éireann worked to lift both notices as quickly and safely as possible. Following satisfactory water sampling, both Boil Water Notices have been lifted.
Uisce Éireann acknowledges the impact of the notices on customers and thanks the communities affected for their support while the notices were in place.
Uisce Éireann’s primary focus remains the protection of public health and we worked with our stakeholders to lift the notices as quickly as possible. We are grateful to customers, elected representatives and the media for their assistance in sharing information on the Boil Water Notices.
The Boil Water Notices on the Dunmore/Glenamaddy and Glenamaddy Public Water Supplies and the Gort Public Water Supply remain in effect. Water must be boiled for:
- Drinking;
- Drinks made with water;
- Preparation of salads and similar foods, which are not cooked prior to eating;
- Brushing of teeth;
- Making of ice - discard ice cubes in fridges and freezers and filtered water in fridges. Make ice from cooled boiled water.
