Trim Water Treatment Plant Upgrade
Uisce Éireann is progressing a major project to upgrade Trim Water Treatment Plant.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Meath County Council, has submitted a planning application for a project to upgrade and modernise Trim Water Treatment Plant which currently supplies over 10,000 customers in Trim and surrounding areas.
This project will address ongoing operational issues, safeguarding water supply for homes and businesses in Trim and surrounding areas, who have frequently experienced disruption from outages.
What are the benefits of these works?
The upgrade works carried out as part of this project will:
- Ensure a secure and resilient water supply to Trim and surrounding areas.
- Ensure compliance with current drinking water quality regulations.
- Enable the supply to be removed from the EPA's Remedial Action List.
- Enable social and economic growth in the area.
What's involved in this project?
The upgrade to Trim Water Treatment Plant will involve:
- Construction of new single storey buildings and a control/administration building;
- Internal repurposing / reconfiguration of the existing water treatment building;
- Provision of new treatment facilities;
- Construction of freestanding (above and below ground structures and associated above and below ground pipework);
- Demolition of existing structures and removal of one existing sludge lagoon; • Roof and ground mounted solar panels;
- Creation of temporary / construction access point to the L2204 'Rock Road' for the duration of construction works;
- All associated site works.
What are the next steps?
Uisce Éireann has now secured planning permission to carry out these upgrade works. It is envisaged that construction works will commence towards the end of 2024, however the exact timelines are subject to obtaining additional consents, and finalising procurement details for delivery of the project.
We will continue to provide updates on timelines as we progress through these steps in 2024.
In addition to this project, Uisce Éireann continues to replace old and problematic water mains in the town to reduce disruption from bursts and outages, which have been affecting homes and businesses.
