Monaghan Wastewater Treatment Plants Upgrades
Wastewater Project
Upgrading the wastewater treatment plants across Monaghan as part of a €1.1 million investment.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Monaghan County Council, is investing over €1.1 million to undertake essential upgrade works to wastewater treatment plants in towns and villages across Monaghan. These improvement works include upgrades to the inlet works, storm water management and sludge treatment and storage facilities.
As part of the project, upgrade works are proposed to be completed at the plants in Ballybay, Smithborough and Clones.
Benefits
- Upgrade existing infrastructure at the plants and provide new elements where defects identified
- Improve the performance of the wastewater treatment process
- Prolong the operational life of the existing plant
- Reduce the risk of storm water flooding
- Ensure compliance with Urban Wastewater Treatment Regulations 2001
Steps
- Install a new bypass screen, storm water holding tank and pumps and provide a roof cover for the sludge treatment facility at the Ballybay Plant
- Install a new bypass screen, an underground storm water tank and pumps and effluent pumping station at the Smithborough Plant
- Install a new inlet works with grit removal, Sludge Dry Red Beds with pumping station and associated pipework and effluent pumping station at the Clones Plant
- Works will be carried out within the footprint of the plants therefore minimising disruption to residents and businesses in the surrounding area
