Dysart North Water Mains Replacement
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Westmeath County Council, has replaced ageing, problematic water mains prone to bursts in Dysart village, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath in an effort to provide a more secure and reliable water supply to the wider Westmeath community of Ballinea, Castletown-Geoghan, Ballinagore, Kilbeggan and Horseleap and to reduce high levels of leakage.
The works involved the replacement of almost 3.5 kilometres of aged problematic water mains with new modern pipes. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works took place along the R391 in Dysart Village, with works beginning adjacent to the Church. The works continued along the R391 in the direction of Mullingar up to the junction at the Ballymahon Road, just before Ballinea Village.
The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these were replaced as part of this improvement work.
The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Ltd and were ompleted by August 2023.

Will customers be affected by the works?
Areas of work were limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management in the form of stop / go traffic lights were in place along the R391 for the duration of the project to deliver the works safely and efficiently, the areas of work were limited to short sections to minimise impact. Local and emergency traffic were always maintained.
The works involved some short-term water interruptions and the project team ensured that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews made every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
