Cahir Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade

Uisce Éireann has completed a €3 million upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant at Cahir, County Tipperary

The project has significantly modernised and improved the performance and capacity of the plant and will accommodate growth and development in the area. It will also improve the quality of treated wastewater discharged into the River Suir and ensure compliance with wastewater regulation.

What is involved with this project?

The Cahir Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade project included:

  • Increasing the capacity of the Wastewater Treatment Plant to a Population Equivalent (PE) of 5,500 which caters for a 10-year growth forecast.
  • Works comprised new inlet screen works, 2 new storm water overflow (SWO) chambers, new splitter chambers, a new final settling tank and additional ancillary works.
  • The upgraded plant will discharge treated effluent into the River Suir to the Wastewater Discharge Licence (WWDL) and Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD) standards.

  • Ensure compliance with national and EU regulations relating to the treatment of wastewater.
