Bandon Water Main & Sewer Network Upgrade Project

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Cork County Council, has completed the Bandon Water Main and Sewer Network Upgrade.

The project represents an investment of €21 million in the town and involved the replacement of defective water mains, pressure management works and capacity improvement works in the drinking water network. The project also addresses the wastewater network, with an increase in the capacity of the sewerage system to cater for future growth and development, and a reduction in overflows to the Bandon and Bridewell Rivers. Ward and Burke Construction Ltd delivered these works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Once complete the project will provide the following;

  • Improved water quality.
  • A reliable water supply for Bandon.
  • Enhanced water quality in River Bandon.
  • Alleviate sewer flooding.
  • Reduced leakages.
  • Increased water and sewer network capacity allowing for growth and economic development in Bandon. 

What is involved as part of this project?

The Bandon Water Main and Sewer Network Upgrade project involves;

  • Replacement of 10km of aging water mains with a high frequency of burst and high rate of leakage, including 3.6km of new trunk mains;
  • Upgrading over 5km of sewer network;
  • Removal of 11 combined sewer overflows.
