Ballycannon Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
Wastewater Project
Uisce Éireann is progressing works to construct a pumping station
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Clare County Council, is progressing works to construct a new pump station and sewer network pipe, as part of the planned upgrade to the existing wastewater infrastructure in Ballycannon, Co. Clare. Works will be carried out by EPS on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Currently the existing wastewater infrastructure in Ballycannon is non-compliant with the wastewater certificate and as a result it is impacting receiving waters. This project will ensure that there is adequate treatment of wastewater, for now and into the future, as well as protecting human health and safeguarding the environment.
What is involved with this project?
Decommission the existing wastewater treatment plant at Ballycannon and replacing it with a new sewage pumping station and sewer network pipe. This will transfer the flows to the Elton Court Catchment, from where it will be transferred to the Limerick Main Drainage.
What are the benefits of this project?
When complete, this project will:
- Improve water quality in the receiving waters.
- Benefit local community.
- Alleviate the existing odour issues.
- Safeguard human and environmental health.
- Ensure compliance with European regulatory standards.
What are the next steps?
The design works are now complete, and the construction of the new pumping station and sewer network pipe will commence.
Uisce Éireann would like to thank the community in Ballycannon for their cooperation on this essential project.
Uisce Éireann will endeavour to keep all stakeholders informed as the project progresses.
