Bagenalstown Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
Wastewater Project
Uisce Éireann, has commenced works to upgrade the Bagenalstown Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The project will improve the treatment processes at the existing wastewater treatment plant in Bagenalstown. The current wastewater treatment plant, which serves a population equivalent of 4,500, will more than double its capacity to accommodate 9,800. The existing wastewater treatment plant is currently working to the limits of its design and an upgrade is required to ensure there is capacity available for future social and economic growth in the area, as well as ensuring compliance with national and EU legislation.
What is happening now?
Works on the Bagenalstown wastewater treatment plant are progressing well, with over half of the project completed to date. Civil works on the inlet works, aeration tank and the clarifiers are now finished, with an upgrade of the storm holding tanks to follow. The administration building and control room are under refurbishment. Air diffusers for the aerobic reactor and air blowers have been installed, and upgrades at the pumping stations to follow. The final stages of pipelaying are in progress, with landscaping, road drainage, pavement, and resurfacing works all due to be completed by mid-2025.
