Works underway to restore supply to Clogherhead customers
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.
Uisce Éireann is working with Louth County Council to restore water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers following a series of bursts to a water main in clogherhead. Dedicated water service crews have been carrying out repair works, including over the weekend, and continue to make every effort to minimise disruption to customers as much as possible.
The sub-zero temperatures before Christmas significantly increased the number of frozen water pipes and bursts across County Louth necessitating repair works on the network.
Repair works can result in increased pressure on the network, causing unforeseen leaks and bursts elsewhere, especially on older water mains, necessitating further excavation and digs to find and repair the leak.
The repairs are progressing and are expected to be completed by 6pm this evening. While works are underway, customers in Cloghergead and surrounding areas will continue to experience low pressure and/or outages. Following repairs, it typically takes two to three hours to restore normal supply to all customers.
Michael Cunniffe, Uisce Éireann, commented: "The repairs are being conducted as quickly and as efficiently as possible to restore normal water supply to impacted customers.
Acknowledging the impact on customers, Michael added: "We can only apologise for the recent outages experienced in Clogherhead over the weekend and would like to assure the local community that safeguarding the water supply is a priority for Uisce Éireann.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience when a burst occurs and thanks customers for their patience while we work to restore normal supply to impacted customers.
