Water restrictions for East Meath following major burst
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.
Uisce Éireann customers in East Meath will experience water restrictions today following a major burst over the weekend affecting Ratoath, Kilbride and Ashbourne.
Repairs works have been carried out, but in order to aid the replenishment of local reservoirs, some residents may experience interruptions to their water supply until 3pm this afternoon.
The townlands affected include Bullstown, Greenoge, Masspool, Archerstown, Johnstown (Ed Donaghmore), Newtown Commons, Ballaghaweary, Donaghmore, Cookstown (Ed Kilbrew), Killegland, Wotton, Robertsown, Rath (Ed Donaghmore), Milltown, Dunreagh, Muckerstown and surrounding areas.
Customers may experience no water on higher ground such as Race Hill and Brindley Park, while others may experience low pressure or the temporary discolouration of their water supply.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
Uisce Éireann's Michael Cunniffe thanked customers for their patience while the repair works were being carried out.
"We understand the inconvenience an unplanned outage can cause for homes and businesses. Crews repaired the burst as quickly as possible but these restrictions are now essential to restore full supply to all customers."
When supply is restored Uisce Éireann is appealing to customers across East Meath to conserve water wherever possible to help increase reservoir levels. Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to 6 litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.
