Upgrades to the water network in Dundalk to support growth and development
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Louth County Council, is progressing an important project to upgrade and improve the water network in Castletown, Dundalk.
The project will also support social and economic growth, including planned housing development, and will significantly improve the capacity and operational performance of the existing water network, benefitting homes and businesses.
The project, which is due to begin in the coming days, will involve the installation of almost 1.7km of new water mains between Toberona Road, Bellews Bridge and Mill Road in Castletown.
Speaking about the benefits, Padraig Hanly, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann said: "This project will improve the capacity of the existing water main in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network. It will also support existing and future development within the community."
Padraig added, "On behalf of Uisce Éireann, I'd like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and cooperation as traffic management will be necessary as the project progresses. However, based on previous experiences, we know that the short-term inconvenience will be overshadowed by the long-term benefits."
Works will take place in two phases in 70m sections to minimise the impact on the local community, progressing south from Toberona Road to Bridge Road and Mill Road. To facilitate the safe delivery of works, local traffic management will be necessary.
Phase 1 involves a rolling lane closure along Toberona Road and Bellews Bridge Road, controlled by a Stop/go system. Phase 2 involves a road closure at Mill Road from the junction at Bellews Bridge Road to the junction at Castletown Road. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and work crews will make every effort to minimise disruption to the local community. Standard working hours will be between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, with no work anticipated on weekends or public holidays.
