Uisce Éireann works commence to support the delivery of essential housing in Ardaun
Uisce Éireann is committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment.
Working in partnership with Galway City Council, Uisce Éireann is progressing the delivery of key water infrastructure which will facilitate the development of essential housing in Ardaun. Customers in the wider Ballybrit area will enjoy an improved water supply with less disruption due to bursts and leakage.
The Ardaun Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (LIHAF) Water Network Upgrades Project is being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann's Growth and Development Programme.
Commenting on the project, Lisa Cogan, Programme Manager, Uisce Éireann, said: "We are looking forward to delivering this significant project on behalf of the local communities in Galway who will benefit from improved water infrastructure that will enable communities in Ballybrit and Ardaun to continue to thrive both socially and economically in years to come."
The works are being carried out in two phases. The first phase of works, which is currently taking place, involves the replacement of approximately 320m of water mains in lands along the Old Ballybrit Road. The second phases of works will involve the replacement of approximately 330m of water mains along Monivea Road. These works are scheduled to commence before the end of the year.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions. We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
When completed the project will significantly increase the capacity of the water network and provide for the delivery of future housing developments in the local area. The works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction and are on schedule to be completed early next year.
