Uisce Éireann appeals to customers to continue efforts to conserve water

Nighttime restrictions in place on the Castlerea Public Water Supply this week have been lifted.

The water restrictions were necessary to allow reservoir levels recover following power outages caused by Storm Isha.

Ger Greally, Uisce Éireann's Water Operations Lead, thanked the community for their support and has asked them to continue to conserve water.

"While the restrictions have been lifted and the network is recharging, it's important that customers continue to be mindful of their water usage."

"Small changes like not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths all make a difference. For more simple but impactful ways to conserve water check out the Uisce Éireann website where our Conservation Calculator can help people work out how much water they are currently saving and how they can conserve even more."

After the frost of last week, Uisce Éireann also reminded the public to check for leaks on outside taps or in sheds and other unoccupied premises and report any leaks they see in public areas so that they can be prioritised for repair.

The Uisce Éireann website water.ie is updated regularly with local outage information and our contact centre is available 24/7 on 1800 278 278 to support our customers.

Previous Updates

Night-time restrictions will remain in place on the Castlerea Public Water Supply this week to ensure a normal daytime supply for all customers.

Power outages caused by Storm Isha resulted in outages in the area and nighttime restrictions are now necessary to allow reservoir level recover.

The restrictions will continue from 7pm each evening until 7am the following morning until further notice. As a result of the restrictions, customers on the Castlerea Public Water Supply may experience reduced pressure and/or outages at nighttime.

Ger Greally, Uisce Éireann's Water Operations Lead, said: "The majority of our customers in Co Roscommon impacted by the recent stormy weather are now seeing normal supply returning. In Castlerea, overnight restrictions will remain in place for a number of days to allow reservoir levels recover.

"We thank impacted customers for their patience as we work to restore normal supplies. We would also like to acknowledge our water services crews who have worked diligently over the last few days to resolve these issues."

"We are also reminding the public to check for leaks on outside taps or in sheds and other unoccupied premises, and report any leaks they see in public areas so that they can be prioritised for repair."

He also appealed to homes and businesses to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available at the water conservation section of this website.

Customers are also urged to check water.ie and or report loss of service or visible leaks to assist Uisce Éireann to identify bursts. Live updates on outages are also available on X @IWCare.

Uisce Éireann is working to restore normal water supply to customers on the Castlerea Public Water Supply following power outages caused by Storm Isha.

Power has been restored to Castlerea Water Treatment Plant, but some customers are expected to continue to experience water outages and low pressure until the network fully recharges. This could take up to 24 hours.

In the meantime, night-time restrictions will be implemented from 7pm this evening, Tuesday, 23 January to 7am tomorrow morning, Wednesday, 24 January to ensure customers have a daytime supply. As a result of the restrictions, customers on the Castlerea Public Water Supply may experience reduced pressure and/or outages.

Ger Greally, Water Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann thanked the people of Castlerea and surrounding areas for their patience and assured customers that crews are doing everything in their power to restore a normal water supply as quickly as possible.
