Uisce Éireann urges Trim residents to continue to conserve water as night-time restrictions extend
Uisce Éireann advises customers in Trim and surrounding areas that essential night-time restrictions will remain in place from 10 pm each night until 6 am following morning until Wednesday, 30 August.
The recent heavy rainfall and the subsequent impact on the river has presented operational challenges at the water treatment plant. This combined with the continued high demand for water has not allowed for reservoirs to fully replenish. Therefore, nightly restrictions continue to be required to maintain a safe and consistent supply of water during the day.
The areas affected include Trim, Knightsbrook, Scurlockstown, Effernock, Carberstown, Blackfriary, Crowpark, Clonbun, Rathmolyon, and surrounding areas. It can take two to three hours following restoration of pressure for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas.
Speaking about the restrictions, Michael Cunniffe, Uisce Éireann said "Following operational issues at the plant, specialist equipment to upgrade the filtration system has been successfully installed. Crews are continuing to work to bring the plant back into full production. Further works are required and unfortunately, it will be necessary to continue the nightly restrictions for the coming days. The restrictions will allow reservoir levels to recover overnight and maintain a consistent supply of water for customers during the day."
"We understand the inconvenience the restriction can have on our customers, and we would like to thank them for their continue patience."
Uisce Éireann is progressing a significant upgrade to Trim Water Treatment Plant to secure the water supply in the long term. This includes works to upgrade and modernise the plant, to address ongoing operational issues, meet demand, enhance resilience and ensure that the drinking water supplied meets the requirements under the Drinking Water Regulations.
Éireann has recently submitted a planning application to carry out these upgrade works. Subject to necessary consents and procurement, it is envisaged that construction works will commence in 2024.
The Trim Water Treatment Plant has been in operation in Scurlockstown, Trim since 1997, providing over 10,000 customers in the town and the environs with drinking water.
