Crews working to restore water as quickly as possible to customers in Skerries

Water tanker with clean drinking water at Skerries Mills, Car Park

Uisce Éireann and Fingal County Council advise customers in Skerries of a disruption to supply due to a mechanical issue impacting production at Thomastown Reservoir. The issue is not related to the current industrial action.

As a result, the water in the reservoir has depleted to unsustainable levels and is impacting customers in Skerries and surrounding areas.

The issue has been resolved and water services experts are working hard to ramp up production and increase water levels in the reservoir as quickly as possible. It is expected that water will begin to return to impacted customers from 4pm this afternoon, however, it may be tomorrow morning for normal water supply to return to all customers, especially those on higher ground, as water refills the reservoir and network.

To support customers, an alternative water supply is available with clean drinking water at Skerries Mills Car Park. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and, as a precaution, boil the water before drinking.

As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes. Uisce Éireann advises customers to familiarise themselves with their storage capacity.

Uisce Éireann's Tselo Tlou, said, "Uisce Éireann and Fingal Council understand the inconvenience caused when unplanned outages occur. We would like to assure customers that we are working hard to refill the reservoir and restore normal water supply as quickly as possible."

Following this type of work, occasionally issues such as cloudy water (air bubbles), discolouration or internal airlocks may arise. For advice on how to resolve these issues, please visit www.water.ie/help/supply/after-an-outage/. The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is also open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries.
