Uisce Éireann delivering secure water supply for Dunmanway
As part of its commitment to upgrade and improve water supplies across Co Cork, Uisce Éireann, is delighted to announce it is replacing almost 400 metres of aged water mains with new modern pipes in Ballyhalwick, Dunmanway.
The project, in partnership with Cork County Council will commence this week. It will provide a more reliable water supply and reduce the amount of treated drinking water lost to leakage.
The works are a critical step in conserving our precious resource and reducing high levels of leakage which have been a significant source of disruption and outages for customers.
The section of works will take place along the L8636, Ballyhalwick, Dunmanway. The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customer's property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. Where the existing services connections on the public side are lead, these will be replaced as part of the improvement work.
These improvement works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd and are expected to be completed by end of May 2023.
Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management in the form of a road closure will be in place on the L8636 Ballyhalwich, Dunmanway for the duration of the project to safely and efficiently deliver the works.
Outlining the benefits that the water mains replacement project will bring Paul Moroney, Portfolio Manager for Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme explained that "old and damaged water mains remain a huge source of leakage and continue to impact communities right across Ireland, causing low pressure and supply disruption. Replacing these old water mains in poor condition will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground."
Paul added, "I would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and cooperation during the works, we know based on previous experiences that the short-term inconvenience will be overshadowed by the long-term benefits."

We are investing a further €250 million every year up to the end of 2030 - fixing leaks and replacing pipes to provide a more reliable water supply.
