Castleisland next stop as Uisce Éireann continues to reduce leakage in Co. Kerry

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Securing Kerry’s water supply remains a priority for Uisce Éireann as the campaign to drive down leakage and improve supply to homes and businesses in the Kingdom continues.

Uisce Éireann is set to commence works in the coming days to replace over 3km of aged and fragile watermains prone to frequent bursts and leakage in Castleisland, Co. Kerry.  The mains are being replaced with new modern pipes.

The works will take place along the L-2032, L-2030 & L-10693 from Castleview Road to Ballymacadam Reservoir. Traffic Management will be in place throughout the project in the form of traffic lights and flagmen. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

Commenting on the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Jack Cronin said: “Castleisland has been prioritised as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme which is delivering a more secure and reliable water supply to communities right across Ireland.  Replacing these old watermains that are in poor condition will strengthen and reinforce the water network significantly reducing the instances of bursts and the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.  We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience while we carry out these essential works in the area”

The works will be carried out by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by April 2025.

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned disruption. The works also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customer’s water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these are being replaced.

Customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 with any questions about the project or visit the Water Supply Updates section of the Uisce Éireann website for regular updates.
