Cahir community to benefit from €3m upgrade
Uisce Éireann's commitment to improving wastewater facilities across Tipperary continues with confirmation that work has commenced on a €3m upgrade that will benefit the people of Cahir and surrounding areas.
The benefits of the upgrade to Cahir Wastewater Treatment Plant will be considerable for the local community. The project will result in the capacity of the plant increasing by 10%, growing from a population equivalent of 5,000 to 5,500 and the capacity to increase by another 500 into the future.
As well as facilitating growth and development in the area, the upgraded wastewater treatment plant will provide better health and integrity to the environment and improve the water quality in the River Suir. When completed the project will ensure compliance with national and EU regulations relating to the treatment of wastewater.
Speaking about this milestone, Seamus Glynn, Programme Manager said: "We are delighted to be delivering this important project to benefit the people of Cahir. This significant investment will allow us to provide a quality service and will boost the town by enhancing the local environment and improving water quality in the receiving waters."
Works commenced in August and are expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Murphy Process Engineering Ltd (MPE) are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Seamus added: "Uisce Éireann has and will continue to invest in water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the Premier county. The works in Cahir will benefit the county for decades to come. We would like to thank the local community for their support and co-operation as we carry out this work. We look forward to working with our colleagues in Tipperary County Council, our contractors and most importantly - the people of Cahir to deliver this vital upgrade of wastewater infrastructure."
