Thurles Regional Water Supply Scheme
Water Supply Project
Uisce Éireann has completed the works to improve the water supply in Thurles and the surrounding area.
Working in partnership with Tipperary County Council, this new water supply has provided a safe and secure water supply to over 15,000 people in the Thurles area, as well as Borrisoleigh, Ballycahill and Holycross.
Drinking water to these areas were previously supplied by eight vulnerable water sources, with limitations on capacity. The completion of this new treatment at Killeenyarda, Holycross has enabled the replacement of these sources and has also allowed the existing network and reservoir upgrades completed in 2014 to be fully utilised.

- Allow the commissioning of a 10,000m3 reservoir and 41km network previously constructed to provide enhanced security of supply.
- Sustain future development in the area.
- Replace problematic cast iron and asbestos mains.
Steps
- New 8,600m3/day water treatment plant in Killeenyarda, Holycross.
- New intake and pumping station on the River Clodiagh at Rathkennan supplying a new raw water rising main from the pumping station to the new Water Treatment Plant at Killeenyarda.
- 1km of new watermain on Abbey Road in Thurles and Annfield Bridge, Borrisoleigh.
- Mechanical and electrical upgrades at the existing Garrynamona Reservoir.

This contract was delivered by Glan Agua Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann and is now complete.
