Skehard Road Water Main Replacement
National Leakage Reduction Programme
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Cork City Council, is replacing problematic water mains on the Skehard Road to improve security of supply, reduce high levels of leakage and improve water quality.
The programme to replace 300m of water mains in the Beamount area will commence on 13 May. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme. Further works to replace almost 4km of water mains will begin later in 2019. The 300m section of works will take place between Scallys Supervalu and Fothair na Darach/Oakdene. The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Coffey Northumbrian Ltd. and are expected to be completed within 6 weeks.

- These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future
Steps
- The works involve the initial replacement of over 300 metres of aged cast iron with high density polyethylene (plastic) pipes
- The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply
- Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these will be replaced as part of this improvement work
