Kenmare Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade

Uisce Éireann has commenced upgrade works to the Kenmare Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Kerry County Council, has commenced upgrade works on the Kenmare Wastewater Treatment Plant (WwTP). Glanua are delivering the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann. The original WwTP is now outdated and overloaded, this investment will benefit homes and businesses in Kenmare and the surrounding area.

What is involved with this project?

The project involves the following works:

Cromwell's Bridge Terminal Pumping Station (TPS):

  • New Pumping Station
  • Increased Stormwater holding & storm overflow screening system
  • Permanent site generator
  • Pipework & Valves
  • Control Building

Kenmare Wastewater Treatment Plant (WwTP):

  • Inlet works - screens, grit & FOG separation Plant
  • Aeration tank & Clarifiers
  • Tertiary filter system
  • Ferric & Lime dosing plant
  • Sludge press & holding tanks
  • Permanent site generator
  • Control Building

What are the benefits of this project?

The upgraded wastewater treatment plant will:

  • Improve water quality in the River Finnihy
  • Increase capacity at the plant and resolved overloading issues
  • Increase stormwater holding & overflow filtration
  • Improve site resilience for flooding & power failure
  • Increase FOG Removal system in conjunction with local community efforts
  • Improve the performance level of the sewer network
  • Enabled the long-term social and economic development of Kenmare
  • Will ensure environmental compliance with National and EU regulations related to the treatment of wastewater.

Works have now commenced on the project. Uisce Éireann will endeavour to keep all stakeholders informed as we progress this essential water supply project.
