Doneraile Water Mains Replacement
National Leakage Reduction Programme
Uisce Éireann in partnership with Cork County Council is replacing problematic water mains in Doneraile, Co.Cork to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.
The works involve the replacement of over 2475 metres of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Doneraile will commence in late-November. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works will take place on the Doneraile to Shanballymore Road (R522) from Inane to the junction of the R522/L5558 where they will continue toward Ballinamona Cross for approximately 500m.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke Ltd. and are expected to be completed by early-February.
What are the benefits of the works?
The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:
- Reliable Water Supply - Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
- Reduced Leaks - Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
- Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver efficiencies including cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
Traffic Management and road closures
In order to complete the works in an efficient and safe manner, the R522 Doneraile to Kildorrery Road will remain closed from the Turnpike Cross to the N73 from late-November to late-December with access limited to local residents.
The suggested eastbound diversion route is New Road via Doneraile to Shenakilla Cross and the N73 to Ballyaskin and Ballinamona Cross. Westbound traffic from the N73 take New Road toward Doneraile.
In order to complete the work a second road closure will take place from early-January to early-February along the L5558 route extending from the Doneraile to Shanballymore Road as far as Ballinamona Cross.
The R522 Doneraile to Kildorrery Road will be open during this phase of the works and the suggested diversion route is to continue on the R522 Doneraile to Kildorrery Road to the N73 for Ballinamona Cross.
All diversions will be signposted in advance.
Will customers be affected by the works?
The works may involve some short-term water outages and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water outages.
