Duinch, Banteer Water Mains Rehabilitation

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Cork County Council, has replaced ageing, problematic water mains in Duinch, Banteer Co. Cork to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.

The works involved the replacement of over 2.8km of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Duinch, Banteer Co. Cork commenced in mid-July. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The section of works took place along the Fr Murphy's Bridge to Gortmore Road (L5252) from its junction with the R579 at Father Murphy's Bridge, for approximately 2.8km westbound in the direction of the Mount Hillary Loop.

The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke and were completed by late September.

What are the benefits of the works?

The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:

• A Reliable Water Supply - Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.

Reduced Leaks - Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.

Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Traffic Management and Road Closures

In order to complete these works in a safe and efficient manner, a road closure is required on the Fr Murphy's Bridge to Gortmore Road (L5252) from mid-July until lateSeptember. The road will remain closed from its junction with the R579 at Fr Murphy's Bridge to its junction with the L5332, before the Mount Hillary Loop Carpark.

The suggested diversion route for Westbound traffic is via R579 to Banteer Village and from the crossroads continue Eastbound, via L1121, to its junction with the L5332 road. Follow the road southbound to Mount Hillary.

Will customers be affected by the works?

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
