Uisce Éireann reminds motorists of Athenry road closure to facilitate essential works

Uisce Éireann wishes to advise motorists of a temporary road closure in Athenry starting this Monday, 24 June, 2024 to ensure the safe delivery of resurfacing works.

In order to facilitate works on the Athenry Sewer Scheme, the R347 (Dublin Road) will be closed from Monday, 24 June for three days.

Locals can be assured that local and emergency access will be maintained at all times and diversions will be in place and signposted.

Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager Colm Claffey thanked the community for their patience and co-operation in advance of the works.
“Uisce Éireann acknowledges that diversions can be inconvenient for the local community and our crews will make every effort to minimise disruption to the local people. We are confident that the short-term inconvenience will be outweighed by the long-term benefits upon completion of this sewerage scheme.
“The project will not only reduce the risk of sewer flooding and address non-compliant sewer overflows into the River Clarin, but it will support future social and economic growth in the area.”

Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland. We are committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment.
