Essential overnight restrictions to continue for the Galtee Regional Public Water Supply

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Uisce Éireann working to maintain normal water supplies following impacts of recent weather events and high demand

Whilst reservoirs levels are increasing, night-time water restrictions will remain in place on the Galtee Regional Scheme from 8pm this evening (Friday 26 January) until 7am tomorrow morning (Saturday 27 January). These restrictions are essential to maintain a daytime supply following operational difficulties due to the recent cold weather. The situation will again be reviewed tomorrow.

The areas impacted are Tullamain, Coolmoyne, Barrettstown, Derryluskan, Graigue Lower, Mockerlershill and surrounding areas.

Note: Rosegreen village will not be impacted by the restrictions.

With the freezing temperatures of last week replaced by much milder conditions over last weekend and this week, the rapid thaw has led to a further increase in leaks and bursts throughout the network. Uisce Éireann is appealing to the public to report leaks and help reduce water loss to protect local supplies across Tipperary.

We are continuing to appeal to customers to check for leaks in the home and carry out necessary leak repairs. We are also asking farmers to check their service pipes, drinking troughs and outbuildings. Repairing leaks can help to prevent issues like reduced water pressure or water supply disruptions. We are also asking the public for their support to help reduce overall demand by preventing avoidable loss of water and conserving water.

Uisce Éireann's Colin Cunningham, said: "We need to impose further overnight restrictions tonight on an area of the Galtee Regional Scheme East of Rosegreen, Co. Tipperary to help reservoir levels recover following increased leakage and demand after the cold spell of weather. Our crews are working to resolve the issue. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and will issue an update tomorrow."

Customers can get information on water supply issues in their local area by entering their location on our Supply and Service Updates section or by following Uisce Éireann on X and Facebook. The customer care centre is available 24/7 at 1800 278 278.

There are a number of key things that the public can do to help protect water supplies, including:

  • Check your home, business premises and unoccupied premises for leaks and get them fixed.
  • Report any leaks you see in the public network to Uisce Éireann's customer care centre or on water.ie, so that we can prioritise repairs and dispatch crews to carry out critical repairs
  • Don't leave taps running and fix any dripping taps inside or outside your property.
  • Be mindful of water use in your business and look for opportunities to make savings. This can save businesses money, not only in their water bills but also in their energy costs as heating, pumping water etc. all require additional electricity.
  • If you have a suspected leak on your external water supply pipe, consider applying for the First Fix Free Scheme. The scheme offers a free leak investigation and free repair for eligible domestic customers.

You can also find lots of useful water saving tips on our Conservation page. This includes an easy-to-use conservation calculator so you can work out how much water you are currently saving and how to conserve even more.
