Drinking water quality results

Summary of the results for your Water Supply Zone (WSZ)

What your results mean

These explanations will help you understand the results in our water quality reports.

Parameters

Parameters are what we look for and measure when we test water samples. The levels of parameters we find can affect the quality of your drinking water.

The European Union Drinking Water Regulations S.I. No. 99/2023

  • the drinking water parameters we must test for
  • how often we must test for them
  • the acceptable limits for each parameter

Exceedances

When a water sample contains higher levels of a parameter than the regulations allow, it's called an exceedance. When this happens, Uisce Éireann carries out a risk assessment. If there is a risk to public health, we consult with the Health Service Executive (HSE). Together we agree the next steps, which may include telling the public.

Remedial action list

This is a list of public drinking water supplies considered 'at risk' regarding water quality. If a supply is on the list, it means the water treatment process for that supply and/or how it is managed may have issues that Uisce Éireann needs to resolve.

The remedial action list is published by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and updated every 6 months. Uisce Éireann must give an action plan to the EPA for each supply on the list. We have prioritised these water supplies for investment.

Check for local works

Works on the water mains in your area can cause short term water quality and supply issues. Check our Service and Supply map to see if there are works happening near you.

If your water is unsafe to drink

If your water is unsafe to drink you'll receive a boil water or do not consume notice from Uisce Éireann. Find out what these notices mean.
