• Gerard is widely recognised across the New Connections Programme for his continuous dedication to Health & Safety.
• 1 example of his proactive commitment to driving safety standards was noted in the nomination: Whilst Gerard was on a site visit he identified the potential for mini excavators being used for unapproved lifting practices as they were not fitted with the appropriate safety checks.
• Gerard had witnessed the failure of plant in a similar circumstances in a previous role many years previously and shared his knowledge with the crews in an attempt to raise awareness and avoid a similar reoccurrence.
• Gerard raised his concern with the subcontractor to complete a review assessment of all plant which have not been approved or accepted for lifting capabilities on site and to ensure appropriate warning signage is in place on plant.
