Award Winner
Recognising excellence in promoting safety on infrastructure delivery for Uisce Éireann.
Dermot Mulligan
- Senior Resident Engineer, Jennings O’Donovan
- Killybegs & Lettermacaward Water Treatment Plant Upgrade
Nominated by: Fiona Gallagher, HSQE Advisor, Uisce Éireann
- Dermot is recognised by the UÉ HSQE team for continuously driving a proactive safety culture on site. Dermot is always looking for areas for improvement and works collaboratively with the Contractors to offer safety suggestions.
- One example is that, due to the rural location of site there were communications problems with deliveries arriving to site. Dermot had identified a solution of a closed/locked gate policy and signage to give delivery drivers further instruction & direct deliveries to the correct delivery gate with point of contact information included.
- Dermot lives the ‘Work Safe Home Safe’. For example, he recently attended an event run by the Lighthouse Mental Health Charity. Dermot brought the learnings back to all of the site personnel. He requested additional information to share with all staff at a Tool Box Talk, and he placed an application for a return visit to the site from the Lighthouse team to raise further awareness.
Dermot Mulligan and Stephen Devine were both in the Uisce Éireann Donegal Office for the Awards Ceremony. John McElwaine, IDD Programme Manager, led the proceedings from Donegal for the hybrid Zoom Ceremony.
Dermot and Stephen both spoke at the presentations, and thanked their nominators and colleagues for the awards. Both Dermot and Stephen gave a mention to the great work that the Lighthouse Charity are doing in the construction industry, and want to contribute some of their prize as a donation to the Charity. Dermot noted that he found the visit of the Lighthouse team to one of his sites extremely beneficial and could see the positives across the site team. In addition to offering a donation to the Lighthouse Charity, Dermot plans on organising another visit of the Lighthouse Charity to his site.
