• Damien was shown to go above and beyond in leading by example, to promote a positive safety culture and to continually improve performance on site. Damien is recognised for his inclusive, collaborative approach.
• Damien recognises the importance of proper planning before ever starting works. He has embraced the learnings from UÉ relating to the Golden Rules and is constantly looking for areas for improvement regarding Critical Risks. An example of this is his planning and selection of best strategy, vacuum lifter, for the safe loading and unloading of ductile iron pipes on the Duleek to Navan project.
• Identifying “Loading and Unloading” as one of the Critical Risks on the job, Damien initiated the review of these tasks with the site team in order to ensure a safe system of work could be adopted. He arranged for training for all relevant personnel in the vacuum lifting methodology.

Damien accepted his award at the hybrid Ceremony and thanked the nominator and the Award Committee for the recognition. Damien also thanked the wider team on site, highlighting the very collaborative approach on the project and the real commitment across the team to driving high safety standards.
