Works underway to restore supply to consumers in North Carlow and South Kildare

Following three bursts to trunk water mains in the Rathvilly/North Regional area of Carlow earlier this afternoon, Uisce Éireann is working to restore the water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers in North Carlow and South Kildare. The areas affected are Rathvilly, Killerig, Pallatine, Bennekerry, Rathoe, Tullow Town (South of the River Slaney), Grangeforth, Tullow Industrial Estate and all adjacent and adjoining areas.
Water services crews are working to complete repairs to these bursts and every effort is being made to reduce the impact on homes and businesses and restore normal water supply as quickly as possible. Due to the size of the population served by this supply, it could take until tomorrow morning for normal water supply to be fully restored to all areas, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network. Repairs are expected to be completed by 4am tomorrow, Thursday 2 May and it may take two to three hours after this to restore normal supply to all customers affected by this unplanned outage.
As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes.
Uisce Éireann’s Shane Aylward commented: “The repairs are being conducted as quickly and as efficiently as possible to minimise disruption and restore the water supply to homes and businesses. We understand the inconvenience an unplanned outage can have on our customers and appreciate their patience as we work to return normal water supply as quickly as possible. We would also wish to apologise to all road users impacted by the repair works and appreciate their patience and understanding.”
To ensure the safety of the crews carrying out the repairs to the burst and the safety of the public, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted.
